JoAnn
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
With over 25 years of dedicated counseling experience, I offer a rare and powerful blend of traditional psychotherapy and cutting-edge integrative medicine. My mission is simple yet profound: to help clients break through chronic barriers and regain lasting mental wellness and stability. By looking beyond symptoms to treat the whole person, I bridge the gap between psychological behavior and physiological health.
For many individuals, traditional talk therapy alone can feel like a slow climb, especially when dealing with deeply rooted trauma, treatment-resistant depression, or severe anxiety or eating disorders. Recognizing this, I am certified in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (2024) to deliver this groundbreaking, evidence-based modality. KAP serves as a powerful catalyst for healing. Ketamine temporarily softens the brain’s rigid defense mechanisms and enhances neuroplasticity—creating a unique window of opportunity where the brain is highly adaptable. When combined with my integration sessions, KAP allows clients to safely access, process, and reframe deep-seated emotional pain, accelerating breakthroughs that might otherwise take years to achieve.
My treatment philosophy is rooted in the undeniable connection between the mind and body. I view mental health through a holistic lens, recognizing that sleep, nutrition, and metabolic health are foundational to emotional resilience. My specialized clinical toolkit includes: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure Therapy. Behavioral Sleep & Eating Interventions: Advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Eating Disorders (CBT-E). Certified in Advanced Nutritional & Integrative Medicine for Mental Health Professionals (2020) and deeply informed in Metabolic Psychiatry, guiding clients on how movement, gut health, and nutrition directly dictate brain function. Rather than overwhelming clients with massive lifestyle changes, I utilize “scaffolding”—collaboratively breaking down complex, overarching goals into small, manageable steps. This empowers clients to build sustainable habits while simultaneously uncovering and healing the root causes of their underlying distress.
A cornerstone of my practice is my unwavering professional and personal commitment to first responders, veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. Building on 18 years of experience as a trauma-informed counselor for specialized populations, I have expertly adapted my skills to meet the unique, high-stress demands faced by those who serve our communities and country. My dedication goes far beyond the office; I actively maintain my specialized knowledge and clinical network by participating in a monthly ketamine-assisted therapy group focused specifically on the veteran and military community.
