We have found in our years of training psychotherapists to work in KAP that folx really value a chance to see what KAP actually looks like and how to do it. These are a collection of videos we use to train psychotherapists in working with Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. They are role-play demonstrations of intake sessions, preparation sessions and medicine session journeys.
Initial Intake (20 Minutes)
This video walks the therapist through an initial conversation with several clients interested in KAP. It demonstrates ways to manage fear and expectations, differentiating ketamine from other psychedelics, educating the client about the effects of the medicine, and explaining the KAP treatment process. The video offers snippets of new clients, old clients, stuck clients, harm reduction models, TRD protocol conversations, etc.
Consent to Treatment ( 7 minutes)
This is a video demonstration of walking a client through all the nitty gritty details of consenting to KAP treatment, including touch and at-home use protocols. (see consents package for more information)
Touch Refusal Exercise ( 5 minutes)
Some KAP clinicians use various forms of touch during medicine sessions. After client and therapist have a consent plan, this is a due-diligence exercise of practice with your clients if you are offering touch as part of your treatment model.
Medicine Journey Session (16 Minutes)
Karen and Sophia role play the beginning of a medicine session, reviewing with the client the details of medicine sessions, managing expectations, fears and anxiety, reviewing protocol for taking the medicine, locking in on their intention, short meditation, taking the medicine, and settling into the journey with occasional check-ins
Medicine Journey Session Part II (11 minutes)
In the previous video we demonstrated how most first medicine sessions begin. This video offers examples of when there are some difficulties in the clients settling into the session, and ways you might navigate that.
KAP Client Preparation Package $28
Client preparation for psychedelic assisted psychotherapy begins before the first intake consultation. Providing clients with supplemental psychoeducation at various junctures in the onboarding process significantly beefs up and simultaneously shortens client preparation.
This package includes the following in PDF format for digital sharing during the onboarding process with clients:

Key takeaways:
- Business and Operational Support: Learn how to set up and streamline the operational side of a KAP practice, including scheduling, payment structures, and handling insurance.
- Client Intake and Screening: Get detailed insights into screening clients, understanding contraindications, and ensuring ethical considerations in client selection.
- KAP Protocols and Procedures: Comprehensive guidance on KAP-specific treatment planning, from initial assessments and preparation sessions to the medicine and integration phases.
- Risk Management: Understand how to navigate potential legal and clinical risks, informed consent, and best practices for safe and ethical administration.

What is the event/workshop about?
Practicum Component:
In this Practicum component, you will be paired with fellow training participants for collaborative sessions outside of the six virtual training sessions. Together, you will work through each step of the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) process, including intake, preparation, medicine sessions, integration, and discharge, assuming both the roles of “client” and “therapist.”
This partnership allows you to engage deeply in each phase, exploring and discussing the experience from both perspectives (client/therapist).
Experiential Component:
Throughout the workshop, you will have the opportunity to participate in two medicine sessions as the “client,” where you’ll experience the therapeutic journey firsthand. Additionally, you will guide two medicine sessions as the “therapist,” supporting your matched partner through their experience. This dual-role approach enriches your understanding of the process and enhances your confidence in facilitating KAP with your future clients.
What specific skills or knowledge will participants gain through the experiential practicum?
How does this hands-on experience differ from the theoretical knowledge covered in the 6-week training?
Are there particular therapeutic techniques, exercises, or frameworks that will be practiced during the sessions?
Is the experiential practicum required for completing the 6-week KAP training?
Testimonials:
“The experiential practicum was a game-changer for me. While the 6-week KAP training provided an incredible foundation, the practicum allowed me to apply what I learned in real-time, which boosted my confidence immensely. Having the chance to engage with the medicine firsthand gave me a unique insight into what my clients will experience, helping me feel truly prepared to hold space for them. I walked away with a solid understanding of both the therapeutic process and the practical aspects of KAP, and I’m now confident to bring this transformative therapy into my practice.”
— Dr. Sam Martin, LCSW
“Participating in the experiential practicum as a team was invaluable. It allowed us to set up our clinic’s physical space exactly as it would be for KAP sessions, which gave our therapists the hands-on experience they needed to feel comfortable and confident. We were able to work together, discussing therapeutic techniques and preparing our environment to support clients. This practical, immersive experience enabled our entire practice to transition seamlessly into offering KAP services. The practicum truly bridged the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application, making our onboarding process smooth and cohesive.”
— Dr. Julia Evans, Psy.D., Group Practice Owner
